Description
Apify runs a marketplace with thousands of prebuilt Actors, serverless cloud programs that extract structured data from websites, social networks, search engines, maps and travel services, or carry out web automation tasks. Each Actor defines its own input schema and returns results in a dataset (tabular) or a key value store (unstructured), billed through consumed compute units or Actor specific usage fees. Anyone who cannot find a suitable Actor can build their own Actors on Node.js or Python and publish them in the store.
The difference from individual scraping scripts lies in the infrastructure: proxy rotation, headless browser management, retry logic and scaling run server side, without the need to operate your own servers. Also relevant is the MCP connection, which lets Actors be searched, inspected and run directly from tools such as Claude Code. The downside is the cost structure: many store Actors charge their own pay per result or pay per event fees on top of the platform credit, which can use up the monthly credit faster than the usage display initially suggests.
Apify is part of the active Voyage stack for website scrapes and data research as part of knowledge base building and competitive analysis.
