    Limitations and notes

    • Node.js requirement A local Node.js installation is required for setup and operation, and Bun is only mostly supported as a runtime.
    • License required from company use onward Anyone publishing applications or systems such as video editors, prompt-to-video apps, or an embedded Remotion Player needs a Company License with a minimum spend of 100 US dollars per month, developers on purely automation projects do not need a seat for that.
    • Editor Starter and Timeline are paid The template with the essential building blocks of a video editor and the customizable Timeline component are sold separately. Individuals and small companies purchase them as a one-time purchase, larger companies additionally need the Company License for Remotion itself.
    • Code remains mandatory Even the drag-and-drop path writes changes back into React code, nobody gets around touching code entirely.

    Quick start

    1. Install Node.js if it is not already installed.
    2. Create a new project with npx create-video@latest and choose a package manager, a template, and whether to enable Tailwind and Agent Skills, or paste the coding agent prompt from the documentation into Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode instead.
    3. Open the project in your own editor after it has been scaffolded.
    4. Start the local development server and view the video in the studio.
    5. Choose a rendering option for delivery, such as AWS Lambda, GCP Cloud Run, Vercel, or a self-hosted Node.js server.

    Tips

    • Use the ready-made prompt from the documentation to get started with a coding agent, instead of describing the setup by hand.
    • Enable Agent Skills during project creation when you plan to keep working with a coding agent regularly.
    • Use the existing Whisper and ElevenLabs packages for automatically generated captions, instead of building your own transcription integration.
    • Check the comparison of options in the documentation before choosing rendering infrastructure, AWS Lambda, GCP Cloud Run, Vercel, and a self-hosted server differ in effort and operation.
