    Claude Design

An AI-assisted design tool from Anthropic Labs that imports your existing design system and hands finished drafts straight to a coding agent as a ready-to-build bundle.

    Description

    Strengths

    Design system import
One or more design systems can be pulled in from a GitHub repository, from design files, or via a raw upload. Claude checks its own drafts against this system and makes corrections before the draft is shown.
    Direct code roundtrip
The /design-sync command imports a design system straight from Claude Code, and /design works directly inside Claude Code. Finished drafts go to Claude Code or another coding agent as a bundle.
    Multiple export paths
Drafts export reliably to PDF, PowerPoint, or HTML, can be shared as an org-scoped link, or handed to connected apps such as Adobe, Base44, Canva, Gamma, Lovable, Miro, Replit, Vercel, and Wix.
    Governance for teams
A dedicated admin role can lock a single approved design system as the standard and restrict edits, keeping team output aligned with company guidelines.

    Assessment

    AI features

    • Text to draft Claude builds a first version from a description of the task, which you can react to and refine iteratively.
    • Multiple directions at once Claude can generate several design directions in a short time, letting you pick one before continuing work in your primary tool.
    • Fine control on the canvas Elements can be commented on, text edited directly, and Claude-generated sliders adjust spacing and color, alongside layout tools for dragging, resizing, and aligning elements.
    • Automatic system check New drafts are checked against the imported design system, with corrections applied before the draft is shown.

    Suitable for

    • Teams that want to import an existing design system from a codebase or design files and reuse it for consistent new drafts
    • Handoffs between design and development where a direct code roundtrip is preferred over manual translation
    • Fast prototyping from text, images or documents for presentations and one-pagers
    • Less suitable for Less suited as a full replacement for specialized design tools on very complex, layer-intensive interaction designs

    Limitations and notes

    • Beta status Claude Design is an Anthropic beta product, described by Anthropic as early stage and updated frequently.
    • Off by default In Team and Enterprise workspaces the feature starts disabled, an admin has to enable it in Organization settings.
    • Shared usage allowance Claude Design shares its limit with chat, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code, so heavy design work draws on the regular allowance accordingly.
    • One standard per team Once an admin locks a design system as the standard, individual deviations by team members are no longer supported.

    Quick start

    1. Start a new project at claude.ai/design or in the Claude desktop app.
    2. Import an existing design system: from a GitHub repository, from design files, or via manual upload, or alternatively from Claude Code with the /design-sync command.
    3. Describe the task, such as a wireframe, a deck, a landing page, or a prototype, and Claude builds a first version from it.
    4. Refine the draft: comment on elements, edit text directly, or use the sliders Claude generates for spacing and color.
    5. Export the finished draft as PDF, PowerPoint, or HTML, hand it off to Claude Code, or send it to a connected app such as Lovable, Vercel, or Canva.

    Tips

    • Set up a separate Claude Design project for each project with its own design system, so Claude does not mix systems.
    • When the direction is still open, generate several variants in parallel first and only develop one further in your primary tool afterward.
    • In team workspaces, check with an admin before first use on whether and with which approved design system the team works.
    • Check the current limits in the Claude Help Center before heavy use, since the shared allowance has already changed since launch.
